According to a report from mediaIDEAS, "E-paper e-readers will be one of the major disruptive technologies of the early 21st century," said the report’s author, Nick Hampshire, "it will change the nature of publishing and related print industries forever, ushering in a host of innovative ways to present, market, and distribute content." Recently, Amazon has announced update to its latest generation eBook reader Kindle. Kindle will be support PDF files natively. That means, PDF format is one of the most popular formats in e-reader. Among over 40 types of e-reader in the marketplace, Sony Reader is one of the most favorite e-readers for many users worldwide.

What can Sony Reader do for you?

We can buy the eBooks online which cost only maybe 1/3 of the original price of a hardcopy book. Also, you can put the PDF files into the Sony Reader, they can be contracts, invoices or any other documents. Now you can prepare for the conference on the road, or you do not have to bring a stack of papers to the podium for your presentation. The documents which are used to be read in PC or on paper, with Sony Reader, they are portable.

Improve PDF reading experience

BBeB Book (LRF) is the official format for Sony Reader, but Adobe estimates that there are about 300 million PDF in circulation, the amount and use of PDF format is still growing exponential. Do you realize that we have to deal with PDF format every day? I believe that many users need to put PDF files into the e-reader. Do you want to know how to enhance the reading experience in Sony Reader?

Reading PDF in Sony Reader is not that comfortable as you wish. "Adobe® PDF files look better when optimized with the Reader's screen size, and text may appear small if not optimized", shows in the footnote of Sony’s official website. Of course you can adjust the font sizes, but they are still too small for many users to read comfortably.

1.Resize the PDF format

PDF files can be reformatted for the Reader screen size with Adobe Acrobat Professional, but it is even more expensive than Sony Reader PRS-900. Although they listed Microsoft Word in the support format list, the Reader does not directly support Microsoft Word DOC format. The 'CONNECT Reader' application uses Word to convert the .doc files to .rtf before sending them to the Reader. So why not just convert the PDF to Word then resize the content, then save as .rtf format and put into Sony Reader? Try PDF to Word converter, which can keep all the layouts and text content after conversion, you will not screw anything up.

2.Increase page refresh speed

The page refresh speed is one of the most important factors for enhancing reading experience. BBeB Book is good, but there will be about one second delay when you switch to the next page when you read in PDF format. Reading text document (.txt) is much faster. If your PDF is text based file, you can convert it to text using AnyBizSoft PDF to Text Converter, it is fast and totally free. It took only 45 seconds to convert the New Moon in PDF format which is 286 pages to Text document.

3.Create PDF for Sony Reader

Not all the versions of Sony Reader support Word format. For example, the Sony Reader PRS-505 only supports PDF, BBeB and Text. If you are using the former version of Sony Reader, you can create your own PDF files and make them portable. Microsoft Office 2007 provides the 'save as PDF' add-on, just click save as you can see PDF is on the list. You can save the Word document, PowerPoint presentation, Excel spreadsheet as PDF format. Or there are many free PDF creators in the market, most of them are extremely easy to use and available if you googled the keyword "free PDF creator".

With the tips mentioned above, you can enjoy reading PDF files in Sony Reader. Sony Reader can be an excellent assistant for both business and individual users.
