When I was growing up there were a total of three swimming pools in our tiny town. One was even the community pool. I loved swimming and attended the community pool just about everyday. It was cheap entertainment and I could hang out there all day and even go back at night. It was a place where I could see all my friends and meet new people.
Unfortunately it didn’t have a water slide or any crazy gadgets, but the purpose was served!
What makes it so great to have a pool? When I moved from my small town in the Midwest to the West Coast, I noticed nearly every hotel, gym, apartment complex, and just about every other home had one. Millions of Americans have one, especially in the warmer climates. If you don’t necessarily have one, chances are you go to a gym that has one, or you know someone that does. I know whenever we stay at a hotel one of the requirements is that it must have a pool. And it’s not just for my kid to have fun, but for us to relax in after a long drive.
Not much compares to sitting by the pool on a hot summer day enjoying your drink of choice while the kids splash around. It’s also fun to host “pool parties” for the little ones. The kids bring their floats, parents get to catch up, and there’s usually some good barbequing that goes on. If you have a pool I’m sure there have been those times where people show up on your doorstep all decked out in their swim gear and they reply, “we were just in the area and wanted to say hi.” Yeah right, you’re thinking, but you can’t turn them away because enjoying a nice day by the pool sounds like a great idea!
It’s well worth it to pay the pool cleaner a couple times a month to make that pool sparkle. There have been times where wind storms covered the pool with leaves and there was no way I could get them out on my own. There’s no sweat off my back and it’s comforting to know my family friends can enjoy a nice clean pool at my home.
